KAOS-U / Cookies!

The morning dawned bright and clear, a glorious day, as yet unmarred by explosions, mangled corpses, or science gone wrong. Not that Pierce noticed the daylight. He'd been up all night and was now sitting in the kitchen. There was a webwork of wires crawling along his face and head, contact pads looking like little feet all across his skin while he contemplated...a plate of cookies.

These were ideal cookies. Cookies that defined every kids' dream of chocolate chip; large, soft, tempting. The smell alone would make a weaker man tremble at the knee!

And he hadn't touched them yet because he wanted to make sure all the senses were registering properly and that anticipation readings could be taken as well. Was it any wonder he was a little zoned out?

Braig and Dilan didn't answer...too busy eating! There was a chuckle, though.

Aya took that as her just due and hitched up to sit on the counter when her omelet was done while Maya just chuckled and stole the pan for rinsing. "You make me sound like a shameless manipulator Aya."

Dilan smiled to listen to the girls talk. He liked having them around. They were soft, and smelled nice, and were nice people.

Aya noticed the smile, but really she thought it was for the cooking. "Hey, I think that's the best compliment yet. No one smiles that much after my omelets."

"Did you drug the omelets Aya?"

"Katzu, Maya."

"Right. Did you fruit his omelet?"

"I like having you here." Dilan said softly, "You make the house nicer."

Braig smiled at him and placed a hand on the bigger man's knee.

Aya blushed at that and applied herself to her food, yes.

"Thank you. We try?" Maya offered.

"You're good at it." Dilan said, smiling at her. Then he quieted and went back to his omelet because Braig patted his leg and nodded at it. No making the girls uncomfortable.

To be fair it was easy to embarrass them sometimes! They were young! "Thank you," Aya murmured at last and slid her plate into the sink for Maya to wash. "So, what now? Who has plans?"

"Homework." Dilan said, "I have an essay to write. My thesis advisor likes me to give him regular essays to be sure I'm not going too crazy."

"I have some research reading to do." Brag agreed.

"That leaves us..." Maya mused.

"Sparring, then Anatomy and Physiology."

"Or we could do that too. You know, I miss being spontaneous..." Maya laughed and poked her sister.

"On your down time girl. Do that in your down time!"

Braig laughed, "Which you'll have in, like, another eight years?"

"Something like that," Aya admitted with a grin.

"Hey, we get little chunks of downtime! And breaks!"

"Won't get many as you get farther in your studies." Dilan admitted, "I only get to do as much other stuff because I don't sleep much."

"I," Braig said with a grimace, "am pretty much always working. Even if I don't look like it."

"We knew school would be intense," Aya admitted. "We needed it to be."

Maya grimaced but nodded after her sister spoke. "Yeah. We need more certified medics and doctors in the company, and our Doctor isn't young."

The boys nodded, serious, "You're going to have to figure out how to schedule your fun." Braig said, "Because if you don't take some, you'll burn out...but if you take too much you won't learn all you need to know."

"Which means, Maya, you're on spontaneous moments" Aya pointed at her sister dramatically.

"And we've already scheduled ponies. That has to be a start." Maya grinned.

"Ponies are serious business." Braig said with a smile, stroking Dilan's thigh.

Dilan just dipped his head with that little smile that said he knew it was weird, but he liked it anyway.

"If it can make us giggle or laugh sometimes it's fun." Maya pointed out easily.

"Even if it's serious fun."

"I hope you like it." Dilan murmured, still with the little smile.

Braig said; "Dude, we'll like it...even if only because you do. Okay?"

"We are in the demographic," Aya chuckled.

"Yeah, young, female, and with a hidden love of cartoons and happy endings. We'll probably adore it!"

"Okay." Dilan stood and picked up the rest of the plates, heading over to rinse them and stick them in the dishwasher, "I'm going to start my essay in the living room. I'll have the radio on if anyone wants to join me."

"Let me grab my books, babe, and I'll be right there." Braig agreed.

"We'll be down after sparring." Aya added after a moment of thought. A group would be nice.

"Sure, when we hit the books."

"Okay." Dilan smiled at them, "I'd like that." then he drifted out to start work on his paper, while Braig headed back to his bookshelf for books.

The girls headed upstairs to throw each other around (much to the amusement of Sheeva, who was back on the bed) for a good hour or so. Nevada would skin them if they didn't stay in shape!

Then, after a quick wash, they were both downstairs and lounging on the floor with about five books spreads around them.

Dilan was crossed-legs at one end of the coffee table, and Braig was sprawled on the couch with a stack of books and a notebook.

It was a nice, low-key way to spend the evening.
