The morning dawned bright and clear, a glorious day, as yet unmarred by explosions, mangled corpses, or science gone wrong. Not that Pierce noticed the daylight. He'd been up all night and was now sitting in the kitchen. There was a webwork of wires crawling along his face and head, contact pads looking like little feet all across his skin while he contemplated...a plate of cookies.

These were ideal cookies. Cookies that defined every kids' dream of chocolate chip; large, soft, tempting. The smell alone would make a weaker man tremble at the knee!

And he hadn't touched them yet because he wanted to make sure all the senses were registering properly and that anticipation readings could be taken as well. Was it any wonder he was a little zoned out?

"Nah, it's fine." Braig smiled, teeth looking very sharp for purebred Olia, "They all know that if they do anything in my classes they get to help test teleportation."

"I guess that's fair. Still, I know us first years are brats!" Aya grinned and checked the stuff in the fridge. "Omelets?"

"Omelets!" Maya agreed cheerfully. "Wanna help me chop?"

"Sure, I can do that." Braig agreed, wiping down a section of counter and grabbing a chopping board for it.

Aya passed a variety of vegetables and the cheese to the pair, then pulled out chicken to grill up. It needed to be cooked before the eggs went in! "Are we in a spicy mood? A ranch mood?"

"Hmmm, cheese mood."

"Cheese is not a seasoning, Maya, it's an ingredient."

"Spicy for me." Braig said cheerfully, "Thank you."

"Spicy peppers or spicy spices?" Aya asked with a grin.

"Moderate and savory for me, Aya, since cheese isn't a flavor today!" Maya stuck her tongue out at her sister and finished chopping onion. On to the next veggie!

"Both!" Braig said cheerfully, "Lay it on me!"

With Maya chopping and Aya dealing with the eggs the best thing that Braig could do was set the table. And get out of the way.

Hey, given the sizes of their appetites he could chop too and they might, might keep a step ahead of Aya's cooking!

"Oh, a challenge!" Aya laughed. "You want skin left on your tongue after? Or no upward limit?"

"We have a few people in the company that like to clear out their sinuses for months with food so..." Maya drawled happily and munched a pepper slice before passing him one.

"Dilan likes my tongue." Braig said cheerfully, "Nothing that'll make it hard to kiss!" He snagged the pepper Maya offered and crunched happily.

That made Aya laugh in a delighted burst of sound, and Maya grin. "Yeah, should have assumed that. She'll be careful then."

"Yes," Aya agreed. "Leaving skin, promise."

"Thanks, babes." Braig said cheerfully, "What do you want to drink?"

"Babes?" Aya chuckled.

"Milk!" Maya decided for both of them. "Seems to help whenever we get hurt you know? That or Nevada always fed it to us and it's a learned reaction!" Their guardian panicked sometimes!

"It's that or Brea Twins." Braig said wryly, pouring milk for everyone, "Milk is good for us."

"That works too. Babes is just a new one on us." Aya grinned and poured eggs into the pan over the chicken.

"Ooo, call your fillings now or forever hold your peace time!"

"Everything but meat." Braig said, grinning, "Everything but the meat."

"Then you get the second omelet so any lingering traces of the chicken are out of the pan!" Aya announced, layering in ingredients for her sister's meal. She figured Braig was responsible enough to tell her when he could manage meat!

He was! Braig didn't mind getting later omelets, "Hey, I'm just glad I'm not trying to feed myself!"

"Hey, feeding is something we can do. Everyone takes a turn cooking where we're from." Aya admitted. "We'd feel weird if we won't feeding you guys."

"She'd feel weird. I'd just bake more cookies and leave them laying around."

"See, this is the best part of Dilan having adopted you." Braig said, "Even if he's too distracted to cook, Pierce and I aren't left to our own devices. Seriously. I have always been a terrible cook...my mom likes to tell the story about six year old me making five year old Dilan a peanut butter and relish sandwich."

"Peanut butter and relish?!" Aya squawked. "Really?!"

"...that's new. We've had some pretty bad cooks through the company but I don't think they accessed the relish..." Maya chuckled and held her plate for her omelet.

"Well, it looked like jam, but it wasn't made out of fruit." he explained, grinning.

"But it is NOT a jam substitute! Not with peanut butter!" Aya was...giggling helplessly over the pan now, yes. And also spicing. Fear the spicing!

"I dunno, it could be. Imagine all the instances the two could be interchangeable. Jam on hotdogs, relish on toast. Jam on burgers, relish in the bedroom..."

"Maya, you can stop talking now."

"I was six." Braig said, laughing.

Dilan came ghosting into the house with Cat on his shoulders and Sheeva carrying her own leash. He had a couple of shopping bags with him. "I'm home." he said cheerfully, "Sheeva's doing much better! The scarring is softening!"

"No excuse!" The girls chorused cheerfully.

Then Dilan came home and it was all about the pets! "Oh good! I bet that makes Sheeva a lot more comfortable!" Aya grinned, barely batting an eyelash at Cat before fuzzling the fuzzball and passing her back to Maya.

"And you did...vet shopping? Hi Dilan, do you want omelet?"

"There were some interesting little stores." Dilan said, "Yes, please. I would like an omelet, if it won't be a problem."

"What'd you get, baby?" Braig asked, looking at the bags warily.

"The turkish delight is for the girls. The gummy bear is for you. The hookah is for Pierce. The cat toy is for Cat. Sheeva got dog cookies."
